Birmingham City release statement as deal confirmed

Kevin Long has agreed a new one-year contract at Birmingham City.

The 32-year-old arrived at St Andrew’s from Burnley on a short-term deal in January. He made 20 appearances under John Eustace this past season.

Blues confirmed Long has put pen to paper on a new deal which will include the option to extend it for a further year. A club statement read: “Blues are thrilled to announce that Kevin Long has returned to the club.

“The defender, who initially joined for the second-half of the 2022/23 season, has agreed terms on a one-year contract, with a year option, subject to league and FA clearance. He will resume his Birmingham City career in pre-season looking to build on his successful first spell which saw John Eustace’s side record the highest points tally for six seasons as Sky Bet Championship safety was secured with three games to spare.

“During this period, the 32-year-old made 20 appearances, of which six included clean sheets, and scored during victories over Forest Green Rovers and Rotherham United.”

Speaking to Blues TV, Long said: “I am delighted to be signing back. Obviously, coming here in January, I had gone some time without playing football so in the beginning it was a bit tough. But all the lads made me feel welcome and the head coach was great along with his staff.
