Kevin Long’s first words since rejecting ‘other offers’ to re-sign for Birmingham City

Kevin Long revealed that he rejected other offers to continue his Birmingham City career.

It was today confirmed the 32-year-old has committed to play for Blues for another season – with the short term deal he signed in January having expired.

Long was one of several experienced professionals to seemingly leave Blues, with Harlee Dean, Troy Deeney and Maxime Colin among other departing – but the club remained in talks.

Head coach John Eustace made no secret of his desire to keep the Republic of Ireland international at St Andrew’s – and Long has explained why he decided to accept.

Speaking to Blues TV Long said: “I am delighted to be signing back. Obviously, coming here in January, I had gone some time without playing football so in the beginning it was a bit tough. But all the lads made me feel welcome and the head coach was great along with his staff.

“Coming into the summer, I was out of contract, there were other offers on the table but I just think that I enjoyed my time here, I enjoyed working under the gaffer and enjoyed working with the players. After weighing it up, I thought I would be happy going back and making more progress.
