Manchester United should sell 13 players in the summer transfer window

Manchester United fans want the club to sell 13 players in the transfer window and that’s not even including Zidane Iqbal.

United’s summer has once again gotten off to a slow start after some initial early promise and it’s cutting close to being a second June in succession without any new arrivals. While Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea have all already strengthened, Erik ten Hag has been forced to wait for his first new recruit.

The Dutchman made a positive start to life as United boss in his maiden campaign but it’s clear the squad needs significant improvement if United are to compete for the title. At least one new midfielder is the current priority but a stumbling block has been hit in the pursuit of Mason Mount.

Personal terms with the Chelsea star were agreed weeks ago but a price between the two clubs has yet to be reached. United have seen three bids rejected and are growing increasingly frustrated with Chelsea’s high demands for a player with just a year remaining on his contract.

Aside from Mount, United also need a new goalkeeper with David de Gea looking likely to depart the club as an agreement on his new deal has yet to be agreed. A striker is also a paramount concern after the side’s meagre goal return last season. Again, United are struggling with sky-high valuations while operating on a tight budget.

The chase for Harry Kane was quickly abandoned after Tottenham made it clear they wouldn’t be letting their talisman go easily even with his deal running out and Atalanta have also reportedly hiked the price for Rasmus Hojlund.

So it’s been a tricky start to the summer but improving the squad will take more than new signings, it will require plenty of departures as well. United have a hulking and imbalanced squad due to a decade of mismanagement and now Ten Hag knows which players he can trust and which he can’t several players will be on the chopping block.
