Tributes to girl, 15, who died in Cleethorpes sea tragedy

Tributes have been paid to a girl who lost her life following a tragic incident at Cleethorpes on Saturday.

Flowers have been left by the beach, after the 15-year-old girl was pulled from the sea last night and airlifted to hospital. Condolences have also poured in online.

The girl was with a 15-year-old boy when they went missing at around 1.30pm yesterday. Their disappearance sparked a huge search involving coastguard teams, the police and other agencies.

Today, Humberside Police confirmed that the girl had sadly passed away, while the boy has been discharged from hospital. The girl has been named widely online, but Grimsby Live is not naming her here out of respect for the family.

Commenting on Facebook, one person said: “Absolutely heartbreaking. I was on the beach all day with my son yesterday having a lovely day, as they were too, but theirs ended in tragedy and devastation. I can’t begin to imagine how her mum and family are feeling, it’s just unbelievably sad. Thinking of them all.”

Another girl, a school friend, also paid tribute. She said: “She was such a lovely girl and so kind. It’s so heartbreaking to hear. My heart goes out to her family and friends.”
